Braces and Lice… Oy

We took Dorian to the ortho this morning for his braces. Yay! His expander is out, he’s got a holder doo-dad in place. He’s got braces. He goes back in 12 weeks. He did a great job and there really isn’t much more I can say about that.

While there I got a call from Olivia telling me they found a nit on Eshiva’s head but not to worry it was only one and I didn’t have to pick her up. I get off the phone, make a comment along the lines of “aren’t nits like fleas, there is never just one?” Foot, meet mouth. I get a call back a bit later telling me I have to come pick her up, they found two more.

So now I have to call some other company to come clean her head (I’d rather it be done right the first time) strip the entire bedroom (all three kids share a room) and my bed most likely and wash every. single. article. of. clothing. Ugh.

ETA: 165$ later, http://lousecalls.com/ came over, took care of it, told me it was practically nothing, I could retreat myself next week and she can go back to school tomorrow. They also checked Dor’s head and didn’t find anything. Yay!

It never ends

Well, eventually it does, but why does everyone lump together?

My kids missed most of last week due to strep. Michael picked Eshiva up today because they think she has the pox. I am hoping she does, and we’ll verify it at the doc this afternoon. I hope it is, and I hope the boys get it too. Still sucks.

I wrapped up my dental till at least the end of March this morning. Last week I had a gum transplant (yah, ouch) and this week I had a filling and a spackling. The tooth I’ve been looking at for 20 some years is now smooth. Weird. It had a little indentation at the top – not a cavity, just an imperfection. The dentist wanted to “fill it” to prevent gum problems as it was right at the gum line. I go back to the perdiodontist in a month for a last check up, then a cleaning, then braces! I think I’ll be sticking to a cleaning every 3 months from now on. It’s deductible, right? ;)

Michael goes in next Monday for some basic dental stuff as well. I think we can drive our teeth now :( I know some of you know how that is.

We had a lovely dinner out last night. We got all dolled up and had a fabulous dinner at Melting Pot.

Dorian made honor roll this quarter. He started guitar lessons yesterday. He gets his braces in about a month. Oh, and he’s all of 6 or 7 inches shorter than me. The boys eats like a horse and is growing like a weed.

Malachai lost another tooth yesterday morning (his third) and it’s been hanging on by a thread for a week. I’m surprised it took so long. The tooth fairy forgot to come last night, but she made a surprise appearance (delayed due to snow in the North East) and left two golden dollar coins. He was thrilled. The boy loves coins. You have no idea how much the boy loves coins lol He got a citizenship award this quarter in school and is not currently trying to outgrow me as much as his brother is ;)

Eshiva is being retested in school so we can have a parent-teacher conference so they can tell me my child is a genius. She is super cute in her recital dress, but is otherwise an annoying five year old little girl. Those of you with girls know exactly what I am talking about. Those of you with boys, be happy! Seriously, the boys at five did absolutely nothing to prepare me for a girl at five. Nothing. I want to sell her to the gypsies at a discount price at least once a day. Too bad they don’t want five year old little girls either.

I have been obsessed with RuPaul’s Drag Race (http://rupaulsdragrace.com) and missing my old friends. I think Michael is tired of it, but hey, it’s entertaining at least. Last seasons queen’s were bien mieux than this seasons :( I miss Nina lol She was my kind of queen. You should check it out if you haven’t. It’s on Logo, last season they aired on Lifetime (? no, but it aired on a reg. cable channel last season but I can’t remember which one, sorry! Maybe VH1?) but I think they are showing them on the website after they air on Logo.

So, that wraps me up. I’ve been nursing sick children all week, and I suspect I’ll be doing the same in the coming week.

Sometimes in seeking, we don’t always find

Sometimes I go looking for my mom, because I’ve forgotten she isn’t there, and I am surprised when I can’t find her.

Last week Sara was talking downstairs and I swore it was mom. I don’t hear her in my own voice, although I hear her in my words. I was pleasantly surprised to find her in Sara’s. [Read more...]

My Turn!

From Wednesday:

I went to the orthodontist today. The tooth I went to the dentist about last May? The one they said was fine, but we have to fill these four other cavities in these other teeth? Yah, it’s got potential bone loss, gum loss, etc… and she can’t start my orthodontia until I either get the go ahead from another dentist (I have a referral) or get it fixed, because if she starts moving teeth around it could abscess. :shake_fist: [Read more...]

Awesome Orthodontist News :-)

Malachai had another orthodontist appointment this morning. He was a little wary because she tried to get him into the chair (I did not prep him for a chair visit, just more xrays) so we did one x-ray first, and then got him into the chair. He was awesome with the xray! It was a re-take of the one where they put things in your ears and on the bridge of your nose to keep you still and do your whole head. I think he moved in this one too, but he did an awesome job of it regardless.

Then when I got him in the chair, he tried to get out and stepped on the control so it went up. The assistant showed him which button to push to make it go down, so he spent some time going up and down. Our ortho is fucking amazing, she let him do this!

His bottom 6 year molars haven’t come in yet, so she wants to take two individual xrays next time we go in (in 8 weeks) so see why not (the top ones did) – I think it’s because his mouth is so tiny, OTOH, he’s also only lost his bottom two front teeth, the rest are all his baby teeth. He was 7 last August. *shrugs*

I am excited! She said he did a great job. She doesn’t think they have a good enough relationship to really get the work done yet, but she said they are getting there!

Dorian had his brackets looked at because he was in a little bit of pain and was told to brush better because the gums are inflamed around them. He also had his lip bumper adjusted, was told he could keep it out today and rinse with warm salt water to heal up what’s in there. He goes back at the end of the month (his original appt) to check on that tooth that has started coming out (the one that didn’t have room to come out a couple of months ago) and possibly have his braces put on.

I made an appointment for myself for a consult for next Wednesday. Ya’ll might remember last May I had some cavities filled and the dentist fucked up my teeth. I was told it was a “bite problem” (a magically occurring bite problem I might add, one I didn’t have before they drilled my fucking teeth out!) and to see an ortho. So I am. I am hoping it is a quick and inexpensive fix.
