Bah Humbug

No, it’s not that bad. Give me some credit. We’re a week away from Channukah. All but one main gift is wrapped (one isn’t even here yet), I’ve got some extra goodies that will be here on Wednesday on their way as well. I think I might pick some of their stuff out and set it aside for… later. I don’t know when later will arrive, but it’s tempting. While we did not over buy, we did wind up with some extras. I am all about setting them aside as special gifts for special things.

The 21st is the first night. We’ll be at shul for a bit for their festival, and my Gram & Aunt are coming over for dinner that night. The next night my Gram & Zaide are coming over. Busy week ahead! I need to make sure we have candles, and the menorah is clean, not to mention the house. We need to make latkes. Fresh or from a mix? I don’t know yet.

The kids are out of school the 2oth – 4th. We’ll go up to LCS I think, and the park, and some other stuff. Michael has some bowling coupons, so that’ll be fun.

I had this huge, actual post planned out, but it left. Maybe it iwll come back later.

general craftiness from me

and it’s been quite some time since i have been crafty!

i finally got my sewing machine from my moms house (we moved at the beginning of the month and i still don’t have all our stuff here!) and sewed a curtain for our bathroom. we one of those stupid sinks with a 4.5 foot ledge and a huge, useless space underneath i decided if i had a curtain there, i could store stuff there. so we got 2 yards of this marble/water fabric and it’s just a simple 4 hems plus a fold over to hang on a pressure rod, but it worked fantastically, and all the edges are straight (which is a feat unto itself when my 3 and 1 year old are fascinated with my sewing machine while it’s in use) sorry, no piccys, my cod for my cam stopped working the other day :(

i also made a menorah with my 3 y/o. he made one at the synagogue, but it fell & broke so i promised we would make a new one. i bought an oval of wood from Wally world (89 cents) and 18 bolts (large ones, big enough for Chanukah candles. did you know they come in packages of 9?? how odd is that?) for the candle holders.

i had him paint the wood blue (ultramarine, he picked out) and we painted around the sides in white. we haven’t decorated it any more as of yet, waiting on the paint to dry, but if he wants, we will put glitter or something on it, if not, i am using alenes tacky glue to glue to bolts on, 8 for the 8 nights, and 2 for the shamesh (b/c for it to be a kosher menorah, the shamesh has to sit higher, which is why we bought two packages of bolts, if you were wondering) i am going to spray the whole thing with clear sealant once it is dry to keep it from getting water or wax damaged.

i made one of these in nursery school (ok, i made 3 of these, when i was 3, 4 and 5) but i still use the one i made when i was 3, so i really hope it will be something we take out year after year, and once he is old enough, he can take it out himself.
