Selfish post 2008

It’s secret swap time! Yay!

I’m doing our secret swap again this year, so here is my all about me post for this year. It’s pretty much the same one from last year, and the year before.

What I am… I am a mom, a daughter, a sister, a wife, and all the things those roles define. I act as an accountant, a chef (gourmet and diner varieties), a maid, a washing woman, seamstress, personal shopper, and any other menial household task you can think of. I am also a taxi service on occasion as well as a nurse.

Now that I have (somewhat) defined my role, here is who I am (on this day)… I haven’t knitted in ages, so please, no yarn. I like reading, but I am picky. I am a web and graphic designer by trade, and I do that in my spare time. I co-own and operate Punky Moms, the rockin’est (is that a word? It is now!) parenting forum out there. I spend way more time there than is probably healthy, but I seriously love it and couldn’t think of a better way to spend my spare time. And all my other time. And time that doesn’t exist yet. I like to think I can sew and do all sorts of other crafty things, but in reality, there isn’t any time left over for it. I am kinda-sorta learning to tattoo, but I seem to be out of time and a cheering section.

I have lots of tattoos and big ears. My lobes are stretched to 3/4 of an inch, my double conches are an 8g, my tragii are a 10g and my helixes are at a 2G. I’ve had my navel pierced since I was 14 and yes it’s still there. Everything else I’ve removed.

I am a stay at home mom.

I live in South Florida, where it’s hot all the time, but I can’t think of anyplace better to live. I grew up in MD but I don’t want to move back.

This years selfish post

I’m doing our secret swap again this year, so here is my all about me post for this year. It’s pretty much the same one from last year. If you are interested in the one from last year, here it is. Truth be told, I copied it and I’m editing it where applicable.

What I am… I am a mom, a daughter, a sister, a wife, and all the things those roles define. I act as an accountant, a chef (gourmet and diner varieties), a maid, a washing woman, seamstress, personal shopper, and any other menial household task you can think of. I am also a taxi service on occasion as well as a nurse.

Now that I have (somewhat) defined my role, here is who I am (on this day)… I still enjoy knitting. I like reading and writing. I am a web and graphic designer by trade, and I do that in my spare time. I co-own and operate Punky Moms, the rockin’est (is that a word? It is now!) parenting forum out there. I spend way more time there than is probably healthy, but I seriously love it and couldn’t think of a better way to spend my spare time. And all my other time. And time that doesn’t exist yet. I like to think I can sew and do all sorts of other crafty things, but in reality, there isn’t any time left over for it. I started drawing again, because I might be learning how to tattoo. I’m kind of ambivalent about that because of how it came about, but I don’t want to get into that today.

I am in love with home and unschooling, but both of my boys go to school (one private one public). I also love homebirth and unassisted pregnancy and birthing. I hate doctors in almost any capacity except true emergency. I like all natural stuff, herb-lore, and avoiding western medicine if at all possible.

I enjoy baking, and love kitchen gadgets. I am trying to convert my husband from a PC to a Mac. Score! As soon as our current machine goes belly up (um, and we can afford the monster of a Mac I want) we’re getting it!

I live in South Florida, where it’s hot all the time. I love Disney. I love Warner Bros. too, but I am a Disney girl through and through, so it works out that we get to go a bunch of times a year! I grew up in Maryland. I love Ocean City, or at least my memories of it.

Yesterday we…

We all got up and took the boys to school. I stopped in to chat with Michal about payment of tuition. We’re doing ok. I apologized for not being able to meet my amount yet, but I haven’t forgotten. I should be able to after the first of the year. I offered my skills with graphic design (for newsletters or whatever) and mentioned that we were indeed sending supplies in to the classrooms at least.

We went to Panera for breakfast, because the bank wasn’t open yet. We haven’t been in a while. I am going to place an order on Friday, I think, for breads to pick up on Sunday.

We went to the bank. I deposited a check.

We went to the post office.

We came home, and I scheduled payments for go out after that check clears. Buh-bye credit debt. We’ll be a cash only household. I am keeping three cards (one visa, one master card and the amex) for emergencies, but I am not planning on keeping them in my wallet, so we should be a-ok and stay on track.

We should be able to start going to the gym after this week, too. We’re going to check it out, and we might get Sara a membership as well, and she and I can go in the evenings or weekends at least. Michael and I can go in the mornings after we drop the boys off.

Dorian got his first trimester report last week. He is doing well in all areas. He is even mostly caught up on the aleph-bet! Smarty pants. He is sight-reading some words, sounding out others. He gets frustrated, but he is doing well. I am so proud of him!

Malachai didn’t get a report, but he is right on track. Last week he hid on the playground b/c he didn’t want to come in, but otherwise we haven’t been told of any problems.

Totally selfish post

But I need to make a new one, because I am in a new secret swap. Ok, I am running the swap, and I know who is sending to me, but I am in the process of forgetting, so I am surprised too! So, in an effort to have one concise, this is who I am post, here it is.

I am also a taxi service on occasion as well as a nurse.

Now that I have (somewhat) defined my role, here is who I am (on this day)… I enjoy knitting and spinning. I like bowling. I like reading and writing. I am a web and graphic designer by trade, and I do that in my spare time. I co-own and operate Punky Moms, the rockin’est (is that a word? It is now!) parenting forum out there. I spend way more time there than is probably healthy, but I seriously love it and couldn’t think of a better way to spend my spare time. And all my other time. And time that doesn’t exist yet. I like to think I can sew and do all sorts of other crafty things, but in reality, there isn’t any time left over for it.

I can’t really afford the school they go to, and we got a great scholarship, but I don’t expect it to last forever. I also love homebirth and unassisted pregnancy and birthing. I hate doctors in almost any capacity except true emergency. I like all natural stuff, herb-lore, and avoiding western medicine if at all possible.

I love coffee. Not high priced Starbucks stuff (although it is a nice treat) but good, fresh ground home-brewed goodness. With lots of cream. I adore heavy whipping cream. Probably too much. I try to eat organic whenever possible, but I will purchase and eat local before I do organic (if possible).
