Busy Little Bee

Today we went to two food stores. I saved almost 50$ at Albertsons, whoohoo! I probably didn’t save shit at Sams, but I never do.

We dropped Sasha off to be groomed. We can see her face! Michael called around to find the cheapest place for Scarlett to get her shots and then be groomed. The place we go wouldn’t take her without proof of rabies vaccine, which we didn’t have. Poor puppy. She goes in on Thursday for a check up, shots and grooming. We also looked into training, but it’s quite expensive. She went on the pad in the bathroom last night, and I didn’t find any errant shit anywhere else, so maybe it’s a good sign. Then we just need to work on her excessive barking. All the time. At everything.

Michael phoned the camp we’re sending the boys to in order to find out when the latest we can register is (May) and if they could go without vaccines. Yes, we just need a copy of the exemption (which is currently at the school). I am still undecided on sending Shivie.

I made an appointment with the MW that was attending when I had Dorian. Sheila is no longer there, she is only at the hospital. I am very, very upset over that. I don’t especially like the other MW, but I don’t dislike her either. I am taking my sister for her first check. It dawned on me last night she has never been to anyone other than the pediatrician and I thought it better she know what to expect and have it done by a person I know and trust than stumble around trying to find a doc in a few years not know what is normal for a check. I told her she could be mortified I am taking her now, but in five years time she’ll be glad it was me and not dad and that I took her so she knows what to expect. She said that’s fine, but I’m 16 now and I can be embarrassed. Fine with me.

Michael just took Dorian out for a haircut, because we forgot to go yesterday. Yesterday we went to see my gram and zaide. They look well :-)   As we left zaide gave me a huge hug and told me I am doing a good job. Yay, go me. It was well timed although somewhat random.

I think that’s all the current news. We’re having mini turkey burgers, twice baked potatoes and fries tonight (I want the potatoes, Michael wants the fries b/c I keep forgetting to make them on his off days). I’ve got the potatoes in now since they take the longest. I am thinking about applying to one of those online schools for a degree, but we are in debt already, I can’t see racking up more for a degree I’ll probably not use (I was thinking early childhood education, which is birth to eight years). Tattooing fell by the way-way-way side. I had a somewhat steady stream of work, but it’s slowed to a stop right now. Not a big deal, it gives me time to putter around. I’m knitting the marsupial bag out of one of the Stitch n’ Bitch books. I’m about five inches into it, so a couple more days of working on it at night and then felting it. I think I might line it too… I guess it depend on how it felts.

So that’s it!

FuzzyMabel.com

Usually I buy from knitpicks exclusively, but I happened to have a couple of balls of yarn and a couple was not enough to complete a project, so after some ebay searching which did not turn up the colours I needed, I found Fuzzy Mabel. Run on sentence much?

I was mighty pleased with how quickly my order was processed. They are running a buy 12 get one free (the Fuzzy Dozen) type special (the 12 has to be the same type of yarn, but can be multiple colours) so I bought two more (you know, cuz I love yarn) and opted for a surprise ball (equal value or more) instead of one more of the same.

I ordered 12 balls of Elsebeth Lavold Chunky Al, and got one ball of K1C2 Paint Box for free.

New Shipping Rates (U.S. and Canada):
$2 shipping on orders up to $20.00; $4.95 shipping on orders $20 to $99.99
FREE SHIPPING ON ALL ORDERS $100 or over.

That’s all. Nah, not getting a kick back. Just really pleased with the customer service and quick shipping.

I finished that snood, I messed up the brim (you know, the one I couldn’t figure out) but it came out ok in the end. I plan on using my new yarn for the marsupial bag from stitch n bitch. I might decide on a bag out of felted! instead, but I’ve been eyeing that bag from SNB for a while now, and bought the yardage I needed for that particular bag.

Midnight Sky Fibers

I just got some more yarn in the mail from Midnight Sky Fibers. I ordered some more Doorjam. I won’t lie, it should be called Toejam. Someone asked me to define what colour it was, and I said, actually, it’s kind of vomit coloured. Don’t let that deter you from buying it. I adore it. It’s what I used for that dream swatch I posted about last week.
This is the description, verbatim, from the Midnight Sky Fibers sight:

Name: Doorjam

Weight: lace-sock

Yards: 50

Ingredients: wool

Description: Wool spun in stripes of miscellaneous colors- some with touches of mohair, alternating with a dusty purple stripe.

I bought about 90 more yards, to finish said dream swatch. It won’t be super long, but it doesn’t need to be.

When I first met up with Doorjam, it was in a sampler type box I ordered along with a yellow single skein. The yarns from Midnight Sky are always lovely. They have a great.. I want to say raw, but that’s not it, quality you just don’t get from a mass produced skein from a big company. I think a lot of it comes from being handspun (at least the stuff I buy) and not mass-spun. I couldn’t decide what to do with it, but it was begging to be something cute. I did a quick google, and remembered about the Dream Swatch and voila! That was it.

I even got a little surprise in this latest shipment, a free mini skein of Tangerine (which I cannot find on the site, so I am guessing it was an end) but it’s cute too. I am thinking another something small, a couple of change purses or something.

All in all, I have always had a great experience with Midnight Sky Fibers, and I absolutely would send anyone over there to buy yarns.

I was hoping I had enough to make a headband (not an 80′s round the forehead type, a 90′s round the hair type lol) but I fell a bit short, SO I just ordered about 100 more yards of the stuff so I’ll finish when it gets here I guess.

That Flirty Skirty

Flirty SkirtySo, remember waaaaaay back when, I posted this? And this? And this? Well, I have been picking it up and putting it down for a year now. An entire year. Thank god I started it as a toddler size!

I’ve just ordered some black yarn to finish up the soaker on the underside (I ran out of yarn, pretty much need to do the crotch and it’s done though), so I am waiting on that to arrive, and her Flirty Skirty is done!

I broke down and ordered some avocado and carrot yarn to make the Picky Pants, but they’ll be the shorts, and they will be stripy. Yay for stripes!

I am a bit shamed that it has taken me so long, but it was soooo tedious. I downsized the needle a bit, and it’s a lot of knitting. Just knitting. Round and round in circles.
