First, my twitters psots will be once a week now. See, I have twitter feeding to my WordPress, because I use twitter to keep track of things. It’s just quicker. But then WordPress feeds over to LJ, which people hate. I can’t tell WP to feed to LJ except if it’s twitter, so the best you’re gonna get is a once a week twitter feed.

Second, and for my own records, I am still stumped on this whip shading thing. Lining = check. Solid = check. Watered down black to make greywash = check. Whipshading = fail. However, we have an entire huge collection of tattooing dvd’s and whatnot, so maybe one of them explains it in a way that I get? I kind of got it down, but I had to turn the power way down. While Michael said some artists do that for shading, I’d like to figure out how most of them do it without doing so.

Third, I must have these shoes. Someone should get them for me. Yes, I want them in yellow. My Olssons recently broke, and needed re-soling anyway. Was it a hint? A shove to buy these beauties? I don’t know. I have a check coming that will cover them though…

and forth, my new system is working! The kids are keeping up on their daily personal hygeine and daily chores and so am I! I haven’t stuck to it 100%, but my floor is swept, my counter is cleared, and my laundry is (still getting) done. I’ve done four loads in the past two days and it’s pretty much all put away. I cleared out five baskets of clean clothes. (Don’t think me a clothes horse, it was five different people worth of clothes) The compost is out (Michael took it out this morning), the trash goes out tonight, the children and bathed and dressed and fed and we’re getting it done quicker and earlier in the day! They even earned homework points today for starting the Hebrew summer work (and if they finish the book, they get a prize when Hebrew school starts up again, so they win all around on that one).

I made rice today, which turned out over starchy and mushy. I thought a rice maker = idiot proof rice? Apparently not. I made Stitch & Mickey shaped unigari (with fake crab inside and furikake outside), and a terrible krab roll for Fish to take to work. The rice was just wrong :( Also sent him a handful of fake crab, and some fruit and some soy and furikake on the side. I’ll figure out this bento thing. I just need some practice. I’ll also figure out the rice lol

Today I…

  • cleaned out the game closet
  • practiced whip shading (um, I need more practice ;) )
  • went food shpping (Sams & Publix, spent almost double what I planned but got lots of goodness)
  • had sammies for dinner (turkey, roast beest, ham, swiss, provolone, muenster, yum!)
  • picked up an ipod/iphone dock for the dining room – we’ve been listening to lots of music there and my tiny travel speakers were dying
  • got a new bin for the compostables in the kitchen. it will live in the second sink, as we never use it (the garbage disposal isn’t hooked up to that sink, and no one ever remembers so it’s just off limits)
  • swept the dining room
  • cleaned the table off
  • did some work

And now Michael is playing D&D with Dor, Mal & Michael and I am watching Harry Potter (#1) with Eshiva. We went to see Night at the Museum last night, and it rocked. It’s definitely on the “to get” list. I think we’ll do some sand art tomorrow before Michael goes to work. I can’t believe it’s almost Tuesday already. Time flies.

I have some actual drawing to do for work – I want to get down to Pearls and replace my pencil though… I wonder if MIchael’s has one. It’s much closer. I wont spend as much too – Pearl’s is like an artists porn store lol Thank god we don’t have a brick & mortar Blicks near by!

Nutter

I’ve edited the crap out of my friends list over at FaceBook today. I am trying to figure out how to delete my MySpace all together. I signed up for Twitter, but only to find something else that I never did manage to find (I thought maybe it was friends only?).

Whoot, I found out how to delete my MySpace. The deed is done.

Michael gave me an idea for a new tattoo earlier today. I need to think on it. I am in literary lust with Heinlein and his characters. I have a couple of small pieces planned, a TANSTAAFL and a GROK on the insides of my wrists. He mentioned today I could stand to do them more justice and do a big thigh piece revolving around my favourite Heinlein stories/characters. I agree, but I am still getting the smaller ones inside of my wrists. They just belong there. the TANSTAAFL is going to be an a stylized kind of Russian writing and the GROK is the GROK off of Stranger in a Strange Land. The piece would have to include Stranger in a Strange Land, Time Enough for Love, Cat Who Walks Through Walls, Moon is a Hard Mistress, Job: A Comedy of Justice, To Sail Beyond the Sunset, Methuselah’s Children… Oh, this list goes on. I may have to go with a main “cast” of characters. I’ve been thinking on it all afternoon though. Not a bad idea you had there, Fish, not a bad idea at all.

Malachai has his IEP meeting at the end of the month. He has been recommended for second grade. We’ll see what kind of services he’ll get next year.

My half birthday was yesterday. My dreads are about five months old. If December first rolls around and I want to cut them off… off they go! I’ll give them a year :-) I have one in the back, twice as long as the others. The roots are dreaded, and the tip is dreaded, but I could brush everything in between. The rest are all in good shape. I need to get in to see Chrissy to be dyed again, and I need to go see Strawberry for some maintenance. I don’t really want to do either, mainly because I am dandruffy and the dreads just trap it. I’m not so much embarrassed as… ew.

Mothers Day is coming up. I think we should thank the people that mean the most to us everyday (actually, I think we should be happy and pleasant and say please and thank you to everyone every day, and I try to) so I’m not so much looking for breakfast in bed or lavish gifts or anything. I have a picnic in the park planned for the afternoon with (I hope) some other families we like, and then I am going to see if Sara and/or Michael will keep the kids so we can go into the shop for a little bit.

We set up the sewing machine. It may have a permanent home. Maybe we’ll use it more. What a novel idea.

I have a rotting melon in the fridge. Michael brought home/in the tattoo equipment. I just suck. That melon has been in the fridge a month at least. I wonder if I am avoiding it because I feel like I suck, or if I just don’t care as much as I thought I did. Interesting question to ask myself, no? I wanted it so bad… I’d hate to find out I suck. Not that every beginner sucks kind of suck, but really and truly suck at something I love so much. Something that is so important to my life and my well being and the well being of my family. Think I am being overly dramatic? I don’t. Tattoos feed and clothe us. I’d hate to find out that I stink at giving them. There is a total connection in my head.

We bought a new composter at BJs yesterday. As soon as the fence is up we’re going to dump the old compost into the new bin. I think we’ll just use the old compost bin as a trashcan. Speaking of the fence! The permits were denied because we need to add onto the paperwork that if the fence is black we don’t have to landscape (I want to anyway, but at least we wont be on a deadline) and we need to fax the approval from the HOA because we’re fencing in the easement. We’ll take care of that tomorrow.

it’s a bit pre-emptive

I ordered my camera :-) I’m actually paying for it tomorrow. Looooooong story, but short version is, my card was freaking expired, so the company is express mailing me a new card, that will be here tomorrow morning. I will immediately call to pay for my camera, and it should be here on Tuesday.

For those of you following my “wtf should I get” mess, I went with the D80. I got it on sale from Ritz, so it is coming with 18-135 lens and a 55-200 lens. I also picked up a bag for it (that I hope is big enough for everything – it should be) as well as a UV and C-PL filter/carry case that was also on sale.

What else do I need? I am thinking the bulk of my picture taking is outside or inside with tons of ambient light. I try to use my flash as little as possible on my current cameras, so I couldn’t see spending 125$+ on a flash. I found one for 100$, but I just can’t justify it right now. Is it something I should put money away for ASAP?

I am having massive self-guilt over this, because I feel like some members of my extended family think I should spend this money on a short trip north in September instead of this camera. No one has actually said anything to me about it, and I really do think I am reading too much into the emails/projecting, but… I can’t shake it. There is a big family get together LaborDay weekend, but we can’t afford for all five of us to go. I could potentially get just myself up there, but it’s a *family* event, and I’d feel even worse without *my* family there with me, not to mention having to hire a 24 hour nanny for while I was away b/c DH still has to work. Oh yah, and school. It starts here on August 18th. Anyway! I don’t feel bad about this. I sold my stuff for this camera. I worked for it. It wasn’t money that fell into my lap, and it’s a purchase I’ve wanted to make for quite some time. I feel bad that I think other people think badly of me, if that makes any sense.

Something other than camera geekery? Dorian is signed up for Hebrew school starting the Sunday after Labor Day. Weirdly, it is Sunday mornings only through 3rd grade. I always went two afternoons a week, and added Sunday as it got closer to my Bat Mitzvah. Don’t even get me started about having to save for three of these, so close together too! We did not sign Malachai up. I need to talk to the school about it. I completely forgot to ask the teacher this year, but I think it might be best to wait and see how he does beginning of next year anyway.

Did I mention my MIL fixed my compost? I knew she could :-) It was all maggoty and gross. There wasn’t a good brown to green ratio. We’re good now, and hopefully will get it right. If not, we know the fix!

There was more, but I have a brain like a sieve.
