Yesterday… and Tomorrow

Yesterday I had an ok kind of day up until it was time to take Mal to therapy. Yesterday was apparently take your mom to therapy day. No one told me. Almost every woman there her her mom with her for some reason, or her mom was picking her up, or she was on the phone with her mom… you get the picture. While I was slowly realizing this, it also occured to me that I spent a good portion of my life with my mom at various therapy joints (yep, they are joints now, just like bars and boites) and perhaps the universe was preparing me then for not having mom to bring with me now.

My world is entirely Jenn-centric. Isn’t yours?

I realize that the universe didn’t give us Erin just to prepare me for Malachai. That would be a little too Jenn-centric, even for me, but…. Well, you just never know, right?

So I texted my husband, whom I adore, and told him I was missing mom and I wanted to go out when he got home, even if it was just to StarFuckers or someplace like that, to sit. Well, Eshiva wouldn’t go to sleep, and finally did around 9.30, so we went out. Can I shoehorn in here, that my sister had her friend go home so she could keep an eye on Esh? She is such a love. I had him print out the free drink coupon for B&N, so that’s where we wound up.

Normally B&N is a bad, bad, bad idea for me. I can drop a hundo easy there, and usually do. Well, we get there, and I’m not even in the door yet and I realize I don’t want a cup of coffee (or whatever frou-frou drink the coupon is for) and we just shmy around for a half hour or so. I see a ton of books and magazines I want, but don’t get any. This is bad people, I am beyond pick-me-up shopping and into save the money, I don’t need it anyway territory. Everything I looked at was photography, graphic or cooking related. It all reminds me that I let everything fall by the wayside, that I can’t stick to doing anything. Which of course, puts my somewhat funky mood into piss-off territory.

So we come home, my husband feels like crap because he can’t fix it (and he isn’t expected to, but I appreciate the thought) and I get in bed and turn the lights out and listen to an audiobook. Fin.

This morning I was woken up at 6.30 because dad is still at work and will not be home to wake and take the twins to school. So I wake up Sara and Michael wakes up Michael and agian, being the love that he is, takes them to school because I just can’t drive at this hour safely.

Malachai was impressed with himself that he woke up before the alarm clock went off. We had a nice chat. He told me his teeth feel like there are little people in there playing them like xylaphones. He asked when his birthday was going to be. Tomorrow? No Mal. After tomorrow? After lots of tomorrows, yes. I have no idea if he understands time outside of yesterday, today and tomorrow, because any real length of time is just “after tomorrow.” I know he gets that it’s eight days to Halloween and ten days till we go back to the beach, but I think he still thinks of it in terms of “after tomorrow.” It’s kind of endearing.

Today is a half day, so I need to figure out what this afternoon will bring. Tomorrow is off, which will be interesting as we have Edinea at 9.15, so we’ll have to figure that out. Maybe we’ll take them all and go to breakfast after. We’ll see.

Do you wanna party? It’s party time!

Well, it’s past party time. We had the boys party today, it was fun! Not too many kids showed up – we have some kick ass, non-candy treats to give away for halloween as we made up 30 goodie boxes, and gave away like 9. They had a blast! I am converting the photos to be uploaded now, so by the time I get to the end of the post, they might be ready, yay!

The kids played on the swingset for an hour or so, and then we had cupcakes. Then they played some more, then is started to pour, so we came in and watched maybe 15 minutes of Jack before it stopped and the ground dried enough to let them back out. Then we went out and did both pinatas, then played some more and around then most of the kids went home.

One of the little boys older sisters is friends with Sara (this was a surprise) so she stayed and hung out too. I think it went well. The kids all seemed to have fun, they loved wearing their costumes, it was a hit! I just with more parents had RSVP’d. Oh well! Maybe next year.

Once all was said and done, I told Sara all the cupcakes had to go. We got in a cupcake fight. I have black food colouring on my back. I had cake in my hair, on my face and on my arm. It’s ok. She had it on her face, in her hair and down her front. Yep, we’re fun.

They got some toys and some cash, so we went to Target. Mal picked out Sorry! Sliders, Dor picked out some Star Wars game/trading cards and a toy of some sort, I got Eshiva Hungry Hungry Hippos, and I got Wold Monopoly.

Cuppers, Yum Yum!

Halloween Birthday Party 2008

Currently it only has cupcakes in it. It’ll be growing tomorrow :-)

These all have a square of caramel melted into the middle of them! Yummy surprise inside :-)

Sara helped

Please pardon my burnt, ancient pans – I promise they aren’t actually dirty, they’re well loved.

Totally Bragging!

This is the swing set we bought the kids. I think we’re putting it together this weekend. We got it from BJs for 999.99 (not the 1599 that it’s listing for).

The Allegany has an oversized raised fort with wood roof, end gables and windows. There’s a 12 sq ft sun porch up there too! Climb up to the fort using the standard ladder or the solid rock wall. Sail down on the super speedy wave slide. Two belt swings and a trapeze bar provide hours of fun swinging and hanging. Under the fort there’s a lower deck with picnic table.
Features

* Oversized raised wooden fort with railings, roof, gables, and windows
* Raised sun porch
* Super speedy wave slide
* Lower deck with picnic table
* Solid rock wall ladder and standard ladder
* 2 belt swings and a trapeze bar

I am totally excited about this, we’ll be having a real, kids invited, birthday party next month and we can do it outside and still keep them occupied!! Um, the kids are excited too ;) We’re going to pick up a net-swing (it looks like a hammock folded in half) to do some home-based therapy with Mal, and the kids will have fun in it too. I think we’re ditching the trapeze bar for the net swing.

Busy morning!

We went to the salon this morning. I have my eyebrows ripped out. They are shapely once again. I made an appointment for next Wednesday to get my hair coloured and cut. I am a few inches worth of root overdue, and I need to have about an inch cut off. I have split ends! Quelle horeur! I’ve never had split ends. Of course, I’ve never had my hair this long, so maybe I’ve just never noticed? Of course we’re going red, big bold beautiful red, with the black lowlights, and the copper highlights.

Rushed over to the boys school to see who their teachers are this year. Malachai has Mrs. Mitchell, which I was hoping for. Dorian had her last year, and I think she’ll be perfect for M this year. I let her know M&W are going to be long days for him. Not anticipating a problem, but just letting her in in case it is. Hot-footed it over to the other new building to meet Dorian’s teacher, Mrs. Vassal. She’s a cute little thing! I am not used to be taller than anyone, but I was. She is very structured, communicates in the homework book (fabulous for me) and was on the ball! I think Dor will do great in her class. I let her know M&W will be long days as well (by association) but I am going to try and arrange to have a sitter so D isn’t out so late. Again, not anticipating a problem, but mentioning it just in case. Stopped in to see Dr. O about the aid for next year. It’s not sounding good. She said they might get one aid to share between the kids who applied, and Mal might get an hour a day with him/her. Well, it’s better than nothing, right? I mentioned he has PT/OT/ST twice a week and we did get hours after school. She said I am just like mom, whether I want to be or not *laughs* We were approved for free breakfast/lunch this year, so that’s good. The boys prefer getting hot lunch to packing a cold one, and it’s 4/5 times a healthy, well rounded meal. I’m really excited about school this year, can you tell?

Grabbed some lunch, and now we’re home! Shop may or may not be closing early tonight, so we might be hitting the expo tonight instead of tomorrow night. I guess it depends on when they close.

I pick the boys up at five today from camp. I need to decide if I am picking up a cake or not… we are celebrating on Sunday, so I figured we’d get a cake and do presents then, but I wanted to give him the MP3 player tonight. I love making birthdays special, but everyone schedules make it hard to do it on the day of the birthday, you know? Maybe I’ll order pizza tonight as a special treat. We’ll see.

Oh, I almost forgot. I had the weirdest dream this morning! First I was dreaming I was following Michael in the car, and he turned, and then I turned, but I turned wrong and got stopped and given a ticket. I kind of woke up from that, and fell back to sleep. Then I dreamed we were at the house, and I get a call that DCF is coming in a half hour! I freak out that we need to clean up, put the clothes away, etc.. The house in my dream was a sty, it was awful and I was freaking out that they were going to take the twins away and the kids and next thing I know Michael was rubbing my  back (IRL) and I mumbled the dream to him and thanked him for waking me up. Then I dozed back off and fell back into the dream, still rushing around trying to clean up a house that seemed familiar, but wasn’t really anyplace that could exist in the real world.
