melon

slowly slowly slowly said the sloth.

I am the most passive apprentice ever. Seriously. When I learned to pierce, I got some needles and went to work. Not that I’d touch anyone now, but I did it, I did it well, and I made money doing it. This, not so much.

So, six months later, I have another half a melon.

I’ve switched my gallery from coppermine to gallery2. You can now find it at http://azxuredawn.com/gallery

Nothing is missing other than the photos of me. The upload dates have changed, which kind of irks me, but otherwise, I like this gallery way better.

That’s all. Been tooling around with my new cam and after seeing some of the detail it captures… zomg, how did I not just buy this in the first place? If I didn’t think I’d want a pocket cam I’d see about selling off my Panasonic too. Really.

For Sale: Full Vsmile Plus 7 Games, used, but works great

Sorry to kill your friends page people.

I am getting rid of said Vsmile. It’s an older one (we got it a few channukahs ago) but you can easily upgrade to the “newer” games just buy purchasing the new controllers.

I have the old body. It does not have the microphone thingie on it, but does have storage for six games in the top, and we kept one in at all times (so it stores 7 total). Ours is purple and orange.

I have two controllers. They are the model without the drawing part, they just have a huge button, three little buttons and a joystick.

I have a brand new power cord – we did have to replace it, but the old one was three years old. Sometimes I have to push the power button twice, but since we replaced the power cord, it hasn’t been a problem that I noticed.

I have seven games:

Dora’s Fix-it Adventure
Toy Story 2 Operation: Rescue Woody
Superman The Greatest Hero
Blue’s Clues Collection Day
Alphabet Park Adventure
Shrek Dragon’s Tale
Lion King Simba’s Big Adventure

My OBO includes lowering the price if you think I’ve asked too much. I got rid of the television is was hooked up to, and I refuse to hook it up anywhere else, so it’s taking up space.

75$ gets it shipped to you priority as soon as payment clears into my PayPal or your check clears into my bank. Think 75 is too much? Make me an offer. You can email me if you want to azxure 2 azxuredawn . com (no spaces) . Item is sold *as is* Last time it was plugged in it worked but I am making zero guarantees on the unit itself (unlike the camera which I know works fab!)

Meet my DIY compost bin

Photos here, and I’ll update periodically as well. http://coppermine.azxuredawn.com/thumbnails-68.html
The photos are captioned :-)

This will be a multi-part post, I think, as the weeks go by.

Over the past week I have used a couple of different bins (starting with a bucket, realizing that just wont work, moving up to a storage bin, and today a 32 gallon trash bin), done some research, and started a compost bin. My city is very big on “that can’t be there” so it had to be something to blend in, and I wasn’t up to spending hundreds on a bin. So far I haven’t heard from the HOA or city about my other bins, my rain collector or the kids toys (which are also on the no-no list).

We picked up a Hefty trash bin today from Home Depot. We already have trash bins on the side of our home (ok, on the other side, shhh) so I figure it should be ok. I mean, our HOA hasn’t bitched about the other bins yet. Oh hey, on Sunday we were doing some garage cleaning, and my dad was doing some yardwork, and I had the ingenious of putting some of our extra roof shingles down for the trash bins to sit on. Go me!

This is before the holes were drilled but after they were marked. As you can see we went with a standard “5″ die pattern. Each corner hole is about ~6 inches apart (it’s the width of my thumb to pinky when held apart – whoah dude!) and then one in the center. It also makes a neat spiral pattern around the bin.

OK, bottom of the compost bin. We picked up a Hefty Brute 32 gallon trash bin and drilled holes all over it.

The beginning of my compost. This is kitchen scraps and newspaper. My compost was smelling kind of like vinegar, which is apparently bad and means I don’t have enough “brown” stuff, hence the paper. I suspect it’ll take me a while to get a good, non-stinky balance, since most of what I had planned to have in there was food scraps. You can also see the sun shining through my holes :-)

We opted to do this instead of spending 80+ dollars plus shipping on a premade compost bin. I spent hours last night pouring over compost sites and shops, and most of the cheaper ones looked like plain round bins with lots of holes. So we have a plain round bin with lots of holes! It allows for drainage, lets the bugs in and out, and we can bungee the lid down and just roll it around to mix it once a week.

Michael testing the bungee theory.

not compost related, but this is my water collector. Since I became less of a dumbass and stopped dumping the damn thing (one rain overflowed it!) I’ve watered my strawberry plant, orange plant/tree, lemon plant/tree and aloe with only reclaimed rainwater, which is way more satisfying than one may think!

I am transplanting this tomorrow to three much larger pots. IIRC, one is an orange, one is a lemon and Malachai says one is an apple, but I am pretty sure it’s two orange/one lemon. I guess we’ll find out in a decade or so! We don’t have the climate for apple trees though :(

in all it’s blurry goodness lol

My moms birthday is Saturday, I wanted to get this done by then. I was digging around for a card signed “mom” instead of “phyllis” but I am glad I went with this one. It is from a letter she actually wrote her parents (some of you might remember) about one of her first experiences out in the world, supporting herself. Knowing where it comes from gives it more meaning than just some scribble in a card.
