rumble grumble gurgle roar

I am actually having a pretty good day. I cannot explain the subject line.

Our dogs have fleas, which, I think, is impressive, seeing as they are both regularly (daily) with anti-parasitics. I consider fleas to be parasites, but apparently they are not in the family of parasite that they are already treated for. We got the cheaper option for flea stuff today, as I did not have 85$ to spend on Frontline plus. We’ll see how this other stuff works, and if it does work, maybe we’ll just go with it. The gal at the pet store said it did work, just not as well as Frontline.

We also hit the book store and I got a Mrs. Meyers how-to book. It contains step by step instructions for people like me who never learned how to properly clean. I am kind of excited about it. Ok, no kind of about it, I really am. I try very hard to schedule cleaning time, and to stay on top of things, but I really never learned how. I sweep and mop and it still looks dingy. So, this book is a good thing.

I also got Crafting Jewish, by Rivky Koenig. I am going through a Jew phase. Pesach is coming up and I figured I’d have some things to do with the kids. I kind of want… modern Judaism. Not the throw back old time religion, but 21st Century Judaism. It’s out there, and I am on a mission to find it. If you YouTube a lot, look for Punk Torah. He’s got some good video blogs up.

We’re hosting first night here this year, and perhaps second. We were invited out, but I’m not sure if we’re going yet. I am pretty excited about it. I am going passover shopping tomorrow morning.

We are beach bound on Sunday. We haven’t been at all this year! I think it is hilarious that I am saying that, seeing as from 2000 – 2006 we went less than three times. Last year we started going about once a month. The kids love it. I am trying to find a way to sand-proof my camera so I can get better shots. I might just stick to my P&S though.

I think that might be it.

My friend Sam and her daughter and their arthritis walk

First, I want to say, please do not feel compelled to donate to this cause or join her walk in person. If you cannot/do not want to, please just pass it on to one of your friends or extended family members. If we were still in the DC area, I’d totally make the drive up to walk with them.

This is from my friend Sam, and her story just breaks my heart. She has had one thing after another in her family, and it hits just too close to home to not effect me. I am not going to share her back story, it’s not mine to share. Suffice to say, she is just an amazing woman and I have a lot of respect for her and her entire family.

Walk for Savannah!, okay, its really a walk for arthritis, but we’re egotistical ;)
Cut & pasted from the lame-o email I just sent out…….

It’s that time of year again!

As you know, having arthritis has greatly affected Savannah’s life. This is a way for her to take some control of her disease and have some fun in the process.

The walk is being held at Battery Park on Sunday, April 25th at 10am.

We had a fantastic walk last year and I’d like to see even more of you participate this year. It means SO much to Savannah. It’s a great outing for a great cause in a beautiful place. If you’ve walked with us before, you know how much fun we have. If you haven’t…well it’s time you did! Please do your very best to join us…and bring your friends, co-workers and neighbors. The more the merrier! Hope to see you there.
Here’s her team page:

If you can’t come please consider making a donation smile.gif And please feel free to forward her Team Page to your friends. We can use all the help we can get!
Thank you

digital sex at the doctors

What? Yah. I have a sonogram done today. They did it with the phallic wand doodad. Technical term. No joke.

Today I saw my uterus, my ovaries (avec oeufs), and my lovely little IUD right where it’s supposed to be. I saw no fibroids or anything out of place (ok, the tech saw and told me so).

There are precisely zero babies with antennae growing. My uterus is an inhospitable place. Yay!

For anyone who cares (and because I heart my IUD) I have a ParaGuard IUD. It’s the copper, non hormonal one. It’s good for ten years and I plan to having it replaced once it expires. I heart it. A lot.

More insurance bullshit

I forgot to post/record it for myself. Michael phoned FKC for me yesterday because I got a a third notice that Dorian was approved, but Malachai and Eshiva are being referred out to DCF for medicaid. WTF! So he calls and gets a bit of an answer. Apparently the income limit for hcildren under 6 is different from children over six. So Dorian qualified for KC and it will be effective next month. The two little ones might qualify for medicaid and supposedly we’ll be getting more paperwork to fill out.

In the mean time, my kid needs to see a dentist, but no one can do anything for me, either by way of telling me I can turn a bill into the insurance when we get it for reimbursement or if we’ll have it anytime soon. If they could tell me it would be effective May first (like with D) I’d just let it wait, as it’s not an “emergency” right now.

I just don’t understand why they can’t stick all three kids on the same plan. We obviously qualified for it. They are making my life difficult.

* can be a css command… did you know?

So I was looking for a specific way to call a wordpress post in a non wordpress page, and came across this blog. Then I decided to browse around the rest of the blog and came across http://www.bluebreeze.net/blog/?p=25. I learned something new today. I had no idea you could make a css call with an asterisk and have it effect everything on the page (essentially adding to/overriding other commands).

quoting the page:
Sometimes there’s a need to reset all of the margins on a page, or you simply want something specifically applied to each element without having to count on inheritances to do the job. The solution: “*” or “universal selector”. This seems familiar from other languages right? Well, it should be. It simply means “everything” in a selected area.

The following will apply a gray background to every element on a page.

* {
background-color: #eee;
}

What if you want to get more specific?
With this code, everything within the div with the id=”wrapper” will have a gray background.

div#wrapper * {
background-color: #eee;
}

Obviously any properties can be used here. Enjoy.

not quoting now (I updated my WP install today, and apparently FF on a Mac isn’t loving the new interface, bear with me for now please).

So while this isn’t groundbreaking news (it’s from Oct of last year on that blog, who knows how long it’s been a function though) it’s news to me and useful news at that!
