Black Tattoo Art: Modern Expressions of the Tribal Boing Boing

Black Tattoo Art: Modern Expressions of the Tribal Boing Boing.

Very cool book. A little out of my price range, but a very cook book. Pictures on link maybe NSFW – it shows some bottom, so I think it is NSFW, but it’s not genitals or anything.

More work, yay!

So yesterday… was busy! I met with a local gal at Starfuckers around 9:30 to exchange a purse I bought from her and just to shoot the shit. After that we walked over to B&N (and bought books of course!) and finally got into the shop around quarter to noon.

Setting up, it’s almost time!

This SUCKED. Right on the elbow. Death might be better.

Ignore my nonchalant pose and the fact I am taking photos. This actually wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t great either. He is doing a large area of solid colour with a 15(??) mag needle. It’s way way way more pleasant than any other group of needles I’ve been under, but it’s still a fucking group of needles.

I stopped snapping photos because my battery on my phone died a terrible death. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, as I no longer had a good distraction. Here is the final product.

The letters were the real bitch. The L/L/I travels right across my bone/elbow and I wanted to take my skin off and have it reattached after it was done being filled in.

The blue is going to need another pass over it – not looking forward to that. I’ll put up with the pain of tattooing for the final product, but I hate knowing it needs to be done again.

We walked out of the shop to this (next door is a Haitian owned beauty salon, hence the weave, but on a car?)

Whoohoo!!! Got worked on today

So…. I made a deal with Michael that we can go into the shop every fourth Monday and work on me. See, I have no munchkins at home to look after during the day anymore. Except I had stupidly decided that freaking Labour Day was my first Monday, in which all of my munchkins were home. Then he worked the next Sunday and I don’t like making asking him to go in on the day after he worked. I just don’t think it’s fair to ask him to work on his only day off. So this is the first Monday since Labour Day that he didn’t work the day before. Except he did work yesterday (he wasn’t supposed to) but he took off next Sunday because we’ll be out of town. That’s a mouthful lol

He did basically my entire lower arm (the actual alley part of the piece), a bit on the inside mid-arm and the pins up on the outside under my elbow. Photos will come later after I unbandage and wash up. It took… two hours? I dunno. I wasn’t paying attention. We had to clean up a little before 11, so less than 2 hours really. Maybe 1.5 lol He is headed to Miami to take his yearly cross-contam class and will hopefully be home before I have to take Dor to the ortho.

I am sooooo happy. You have no idea.

Year Expo Report

We hit the South Florida Tattoo Expo last night. I have a tradition now. I have to go, because if I don’t go, something awesome will be there and I’ll miss it. Otherwise, it’s the same old craptastic expo that it’s degenerated into. The hotel that is it hosted at now is not laid out well for an expo at all. There is one largish room, but there are at least four smaller (much smaller) rooms that many artists and vendors get relegated to. I have to wonder how much foot traffic they get, as they aren’t really near the main room and are kind of hard to locate if you don’t know the layout. We’ve gone to this particular hotel for the past few years and last night I wasn’t even sure if we had more rooms to peek into or if we had hit all of them.

Now that I am done bitching about the chosen venue… There were some great artists there last night, and some not so great. I guess it’s same group we see every year. As soon as we got there we stopped by the Ink Fixx booth and said hello. I got a silicon grip for my grip (to booth the size and absorb some vibrations – the size was the enticement for me!) and we both got a bad ass Ink Fixx tee. Then we walked around the main room, stopping at some booths. We stopped at King Pin and Michael got a new bottle of ink and some stencil stuff and priced some other things. We made our way the rest of the way around the room and then checked out some other rooms.

We ran into the lovely proprietors of Rockin Mamaz and had a great chat and got to catch up with some old friends (who knew!) and got some awesome swag. Malachai got a shirt, Dor & Esh got wrist cuffs, Michael got a shirt and I got a bad ass bag. I joked on the way home I’d rather spend 40$ on a purse from someone I know than 20$ on a purse from Target. *shrugs* Support local business!

We looped through the last room after that and then headed home. All in all? The money we spend to go in goes to charity (after expenses of course, but they routinely donate multiple thousands of dollars a year from this event) so it’s not a waste, and hey, we got to get awesome swag this year too :-)

Today is Malachai’s 7th birthday. He spent the morning helping to clean the living room (we’re having company tomorrow, and hey, he had a party last weekend) and is now playing Lego Batman with Dorian. I suspect it will be a low-key kind of day.

New Goals – Day 1

So, I have some new lifestyle goals. The biggest of which is to drop some unhealthy weight!

I have a six month goal, with shorter monthly goals in the interim. We’ll see how it goes. It requires dropping about 2.5 pounds a week, and I’m not sure realistic that is. I know it can be done, but does it require 2.5 hours of workout a day? Or will 30 minutes a day do along with watching what and when I eat? We’ll find out! I guess, more than weight, my goal is to be about 5 pant sizes smaller than I am now. This time next month I want to be able to slide my 14’s on without unbuttoning them, and the month after that the 12’s, and ideally I want to be back in an 8 by the end of the year. I’ve been wearing size 16 jeans, which I can slide on without opening, and which start to fall off about an hour later from the stretch jeans get. I can fit into the 14s but I don’t like how they look, so that is my short term goal. Fit in them and like how they look. Then we’ll go from there. Yah, I’m a fat ass. Someone else in a 14 or 16 might not be, but I am basically five feet even and it’s too much on my small frame. I’m not asking to be a size 0 or 2 like I was before I had kids. I’m just asking to drop back into the clothes that are in my closet.

Daily Goal: To have my hair done daily. No, not go get it done, but set it the night before (or cover it so it’s still done) so it is styled and finished for the day. I tried today, but I misjudged and my hair wasn’t dry enough to let the curlers out. I think doing this before bedtime is a better option than in the morning. I don’t wear makeup, so for me to feel “done” that hair is what needs to be done.

Those are two big goals for me, so I’m going to stop there for now. I am holding myself accountable.
