About QM
Long and messy?
Hi, I’m Jenn. I have five kids, two 18 year olds (not mine, but in my care, my siblings), a nine year old, a seven year old and a five year old. My dad lives in the house with us, as does my husband, one yorkie, one beagle, some koi and a cat.
I live in South Florida, in the Northern Broward/Southern Palm Beach county area. I grew up in Baltimore, MD, have lived all over MD, parts of DC, VA and WV. I’ll stay here, thank you very much.
My boys go to public school during the school year. I’ve home schooled, un schooled, private schooled and now public. My middle son is autistic (high functioning) and that is why we’re in public now. My girl is still home with me for now, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to school next year. I have big house plans once I have the time for them.
Hobbies I have actually kept up with like are knitting, spinning, cooking, baking, sewing, being generally creative in most mediums and photography. Hobbies I actually actively do (at least twice a month) are limited to photography. I also like to paint, draw, craft (I’ll try anything once) and there’s more I’m sure. I have an air brush in the garage somewhere… I am an ADHD crafter. It’s bad. Real bad. I kind of assume I can do anything, so I plunge into the deep end of things. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
I am a co-owner of PunkyMoms.com with two of the best friends a gal could have. Sometimes I get so involved in admin’ing it I forget to post and be active. That’s my fault. I also freelance web and graphic design (since 1994, do I qualify as old skool? I remember paying by the hour for my internet and 14.4 was a great speed) in between managing a household and trying to save the world. A little conservation goes a long way.
I have big ears and big tattoos and I am slowly (slowly slowly said the sloth) apprenticing as an artist… my husband and I are squeezing it in, in between everything else. Some of you know about my drama with that mess. I am usually content with how this is progressing – again, I’ll have plenty of time come next August.
I drive a Ford minivan that I hate (but it’s totally better than nothing) and I wish we could get a large enough hybrid vehicle that didn’t cost 40 grand or a smaller vehicle that comfortably holds five.
I recycle, compost, cloth diapered, breastfed, cook from scratch, yadda yadda yadda and I like to punk and oi (and classical and ska and folk…) I am usually in a teeshirt and jeans and some sort of clog (crocs, wooden, whatever, just easy to slip on) and I hate flipflops almost as much as I hate low-rise jeans (which is a super-lot). Earlier this year I went on a campaign to wear heels every day, and I did for about a month. I’ll wear heels with anything, usually jeans lol I should start again. I feel better about me when I am in them.
I am online way too much, I am addicted and it’s all or nothing for me. I don’t mind being without for a week, but I dive right back in when I can. It’s a sickness.
My husband Michael is a tattoo artist and piercer. He also self-describes as a husband, dad, tattoo artist, piercer, traditional skin, artist, minister, author, collector, amateur movie critic, and all around Grumpy Old Man. He has also worn many other hats over the years including USN Hospital Corpsman, DJ, Security Tech, Psych Tech, and DC Freak.
I believe in self discovery; unassisted pregnancy & childbirth; extended breastfeeding; family bedding; the Mobius continuum; acting in your own self interest but thinking about it first; truth (like telling your best friend that it isn’t her pants that make her ass look big, it’s her ass that makes her ass look big.); diplomacy under pressure, but being blunt works too; stars; faeries; other mythology-as-fact creatures and beings I can’t always see; love conquering all; money showing up when you need it most, even if you think you need it most some other time; friends being friends no matter what the distance; family because it will always be there for you, even when you think it wont; and true angels on mama earth, because I’ve known some.
I am on a pretty big quest of self-discovery right now, so this could all change at any moment, but I think it covers all the basics.
My favourite books are Time Enough for Love, To Sail Beyond the Sunset, anything else by Heinlein, the Necroscope series (Lumley), the Anita books (Hamilton), the Hollows series (Harrison), the Sookie series (Harris), Steel Beach (Varley) and I could really keep going, but those I could read and re-read a dozen times over and not want for any other books.
If I put my iTunes on random it laughs at me. I have music from pretty much every decade and every genre and if it was TiVo it would record everything. I recently downloaded the US Bombs discography, Reel Big Fish discography and a huge Elvis collection.
My shoe size is 6.5 but if it’s tennis shoes I like a size bigger to give room for comfy socks.
I think this is a pretty cohesive “about me” and it’s pretty effin’ long too. I am shocked you made it this far. Did I leave anything out?
