As posted to Punky Moms, so it’s a little broken up as far as it’s flow.
So we got a random assed lead on a partnership on a shop the other day. So yesterday we head into Mineral Wells and talk to this guy. Turns out it’s the wrong place (more on that in a sec) but he says he might be expanding so he’ll keep in touch, Fish does good work, blah blah blah
On our way out of that place (oh, did I mention this shop is over a garage next to a bar?) and to the 4H fair, we passed this place Johnson’s Tattoos, which is the place the tip was about. We had the wrong shop the first time. So he stops in at Johnson’s blind, and says he heard from this guy they might be looking for a partner. Well, the guy looks at his portfolios and says the work is some of the best he’s seen come through in a good while,a nd if he had a spot he’s take him. As it turns out, he is installing a sink for a second spot, but it’ll be a month or so, and Fish should talk to this other guy at Phat Catz in town. The guy at Johnson’s called his old boss last night or this am, not sure which, and apparently John gave a rave review of Fish and his work/work ethic. Whoot! Rod (at Johnson’s) calls back today and says he spoke to John (which we knew b/c John called Fish) said John had nothing but love to say about Fish and he called a plumber today to get a sink installed by the weekend.
Fish spoke with the guy at Phat Catz, who said work was slow, but if he is still out of work by the middle of next week to call back and he’ll give him a weekend guest spot. Nice guy, that’s a rare find in a shop owner in my experience.
Back to Rod! He phoned Fish again not a half hour ago and asked if he could come by the shop and help lay out the area! He is basically custom fitting it to Fishs’ needs! He is claiming this is a test/guest spot, but it sounds like he just wants to make sure he isn’t “too good to be true” you know? I mean, yesterday he says it’ll be a month, today he says 3 – 4 days.
It sounds like he’ll be an employee, but who knows. Fish left a little bit ago to lay out the area and talk to Rod.

Like I said, it’s not quite what we were looking for, but for now, it’s just fine.
UPDATE:
He just caleld me, it’s a 50/50 split like always, they couldn’t talk taxes b/c there were customers there (poo, I am hoping to a taxes taken out paycheck, not cash in hand). He provides his own inks, needles & all (usual) and he also has to get his own chair and stool (unusual for us, but not unusual in the industry) so we’ll need to pick that up. They had no thermofax, but the owner said if Fish brings a thermofax he’ll get a copier, so that saves us some money too.
He starts in a couple of days. Apparently talking to John is what made up his mind, he thought he better snatch Fish up before Phat Catz did!
And Fish is almost going with his own clientel, b/c his mom and dad and cousin have been talkig him up for som long, there is supposedly a ton of people who want him to work on them.
Today is a great day for me!
More goodness:
Fish is getting a truck from someone (we’re not sure who yet) to drive to Indiana (I believe) to pick up those chairs and some other goodies. Other than the cost of gas, food and a hotel, it’s free! The guy is a friend of his, and is going to eventuallyg et paid back in ink when he finds his way out here. The chairs alone are worth it (nice hydraulic dentist type chairs).
He’s hoping to be out there by Saturday.
Man, when the universe decides something is meant to be, it really decides. I HATE the torture it puts me through just prior to making up it’s mind.
